Thermometers of the Accademia del Cimento
These were called the "infingardi" or "Lazy-Ones" because of
the slowness of the motion of the small floating spheres in the
alcohol of the vial that contains 6 spheres,for instance,it was
arranged that one sphere would drop,when the temperature
reached 20 .,and so on until the last dropped at 70.
Both these temperature are according to a scale devised and used
by the Accademia and correspond approximatively to 10 and 85 C. Photo of an antique one below.
